Our life together at Gloria Dei begins in worship to our Lord, by gathering around the Word and Sacrament every Sunday in Divine Service, where God “comes among us to deliver His forgiveness and salvation, freeing us from our sins and strengthening us for service to one another and to the world” (LSB, viii).
Our Divine Services are Sundays at 9:00am and Wednesdays at 12:00 noon. We use the Lutheran Service Book for hymns and liturgical settings, and we also have the full service printed in bulletins for visitors who are unfamiliar with the hymnal. Our communion practice is printed in the bulletins and pew cards. Please talk to Pastor Horn before the service for more information about our communion practice. You may call us at 760-743-2478, email firstname.lastname@example.org, or see Pastor Horn prior to service times.
Adult Bible Class – Sundays at 10:30 after Divine Service
Pastor Horn leads us through in-depth study of books of the Bible. We have learned about Genesis and now are working through Revelation.
Bible Study for Men – Saturdays at 8:00 am
Our men’s bible study meets every Saturday morning at 8:00 am, in the library. It is framed around the sharing of God’s Word. We learn what He has revealed to us and discuss how Scripture impacts our lives and our culture. We close in prayer for the church, each other and those close to us. All men are invited to join us.
Bible Study for Women – Wednesdays at 10:30am
Pastor Horn is currently leading us through Hebrews.
Book Club – We discuss a new book each month. Please check our calendar or facebook page each month for the Book Club date.
Hiking Club – Every month, our hiking club meets for a friendly hike along one of San Diego’s beautiful hiking trails. Keep updated on our Facebook page or calendar as far as date, meeting time, and location.
Mercy Ministry – This ministry provides meals, visits, and cards to the shut-ins and sick in our congregation. All members are welcome to come to Mercy meetings; please see the calendar for date and time each month.
Our Fellowship committee also sponsors various activities throughout the year, such as Military Luncheons for drill sergeants at Camp Pendleton, movie nights, the annual chili cook-off, and more.
We have Sunday School at 10:30am on Sundays for younger kids. Older kids (middle school age and up) learn in-depth Bible study in our Bible class with Pastor Horn at the same time as the rest of the congregation.
Past youth group outings have included a trip to Fort Collins, CO to go to the Higher Things youth conference (with a side trip to Zion National Park). We have also done laser tag, kayaking, movie nights, and other activities.
