The Incredulity of St. Thomas, Caravaggio

Rev. Jeffrey Horn,

text: John 20:19-31, Jesus and Thomas

Dear friends, as we gather here with our sins and our weaknesses and our failures, our times when we have doubted and wandered, our times when we have been blind and faithless. When Jesus speaks these words, do not be disbelieving but believe. He speaks into you also that same thing; Jesus speaks it into being. Just as He did at baptism, just as He will do in the Supper: He speaks into you faith. That’s beautiful, and it’s a miracle.

Never underestimate the power of the Word of God. It is alive. And the life that is in it is that of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who is alive. He has risen from the dead, and when His Word is proclaimed, He is present, as He promised, to give Himself to you.  Do you see Him? No. But He is here, and blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. Amen.”
