Outreach to the Marine Corp

As you know there is a large military presence in San Diego County. The Navy and the Marine Corps have a long history here. Gloria Dei has a heart to reach out with the love of Christ to the sailors and marines living and serving in the Escondido area. This was on display in September in two ways:

On September 11, Pastor Horn went to Camp Pendleton to lead the 7 a.m. Lutheran service for the Marine recruits. It was an honor to have the opportunity to preach Christ Jesus and to serve these recruits on the 15th anniversary of 9-11. Being so close by, Pastor was able to make it back in plenty of time to lead the service at Gloria Dei that same morning.

On September 17, a team of volunteers from Gloria Dei went out to Camp Pendleton to serve lunch to the drill instructors of India Company, and to their families. We spent a beautiful day together. It was a joy to see the children run to see their daddies after the weeks of being apart. We had a chance to visit with and pray for a Marine veteran who was visiting the base that day. Thank you to Debbie Briones and to Lora Horn for leading the luncheon on September 17. Thank you also to the volunteers who went to Pendleton, to those who brought food for the event, and to those who donated financially to fund the outreach. Thank you also to those who are praying for this outreach. Please continue to pray for and donate to this work. It costs about $350 each time we serve the luncheon, and we plan to do it four times next year. Your support makes a big difference to allow us to be in a place to thank these Marines and to show them the love of Christ. Thank you!
